Wandant: Dog Fitness Trackers
by Shapes.com
Dogs are a man’s best friend; we love them and care for them just as if they were humans. They are a part of our family just as much as a son or daughter. However, there is an epidemic occurring with our beloved companions: obesity.
Obesity is just as big of a problem for dogs as it is for people. Dogs are a reflection of their owner. People, on average, are getting lazier and more overweight as modernity kicks in to take over everyday laborious activities. Dogs are no exception. They are, on average, walked less, have less backyard space to voluntarily run, and get played with less due to the family not being at home as much.
Now, however, there is a new invention that can track your dogs exercise so you can make sure your loved one is getting just the right amount of exercise necessary to keep him/her healthy and strong for as many years as possible.
Fujitsu has created a small 1.8” x 1.1” x 0.5” device that simply attaches to the dogs collar. In fact, it is so small, that the dogs rarely even realize that the fitness tracking device is there! Fujitsu has named the device Wandant. The name is rooted from the Japanese equivalent to “woof woof”, which is “wan wan” fused with the English word “pendent”. The Wandant tracks, monitors and records the dogs exercise patterns, weight and health and it even records the dog's shivering motions and body temperature changes.
All of this information is sent to “the cloud” and is then presented in a digestible fashion to the dog owner on a computer.
This type of device could hopefully help improve the health of dogs around the world! Unfortunately, however, the Wandant is only available in Japan. It should be released to the United States and the world in general in the coming months.
